Amla, the Healer Berry

In Indian mythology, it is said that Hindu god Brahma started to cry during a meditation of Vishnu, and his tears, when falling on the ground, created the Amla tree, the first tree to ever appear on earth. For hundreds of years, the Amla berry has played a central role in Ayurvedic medicine for its healing properties, and has been used to balance and nourish the hair and scalp.

High in vitamin C, Amla is a highly-potent antioxidant, and scientific studies have shown it helps promote blood circulation on the scalp, targeting the anagen phase of the hair - the active growth phase of hair follicles - making hair grow stronger as well as preventing hair loss. Additionally, its healing properties are said to help prevent dandruff and dry scalp, and improve the overall appearance of the hair strands.

More recently, studies have shown that Amla can also be efficient in photoprotection, due to its inhibitory effect on ultraviolet irradiation, meaning that it can help protect the hair against damage caused by UV rays and external aggressors.

These many benefits were the reason why we created the SahaScalp Amla Soothing Serum, our soothing, weightless elixir to nourish hair, while clearing product build-up from the scalp and reducing itchiness.

So when formulating our first leave-in treatment, the HoliRoots Hydrating Hibiscus Hair Oil Mist, it was key for us to include the Indian gooseberry, nature’s miracle source of Vitamin C for healthy hair, along with Red Hibiscus, which brings shine and hydration to your mane.
